Hello. I am Emiko Higashino.
Morning and night time have become a little chillier these days. I am quite sensitive in the cold weather so I started drinking special alcohol drink to keep my body warm.
Our portrait corner had such a busy summer and now it’s calmer as busy period is over.
We do copic maintenance every year around this time. Copic is a high quality oil based markers which is used by many famous manga artists. We usually use refilling ink when the ink is gone so we did a big maintenance on the museum closure day.
We refilled ink and wiped outside pen and inside the pen cap. There were 300 pens to clean and it took us 4 hours. Now the pens look new and making us even happier to draw! I feel like I’m drawing better than usual…!

似顔絵作家のひがしのえみこです。
最近は朝晩冷えるようになってきましたね。
冷え性の私は冬の気配を感じて今から心配です。
春頃から養命酒を飲み始めているのですが、その効果やいかに・・・！
さて、最近のニガオエコーナーはというと、怒涛の夏休み全日開催を無事にやり遂げ、ちょっと落ち着いた雰囲気です。
毎年この時期になると、備品のコピックのメンテナンスを行います。
コピックというのは、すごく発色のきれいな油性のカラーペンです。
インクがなくなってくると詰め替え用のインクを補充して使います。
有名な漫画家さん達も使われているペンです。
今年も先日の休館日にメンテナンスを行いました。
300本弱あるコピックを、一本一本インクを補充して、表面を磨き、蓋の中のインクの汚れまで拭き取る...という作業を感謝の気持ちを込めつつ、約４時間かけて行いました。
そうして磨き上げたコピックの使い心地は最高！
いつもに増していい絵が描けているような・・？！

Japan expo 2016 in Paris report
Hello! I am Kasumin from portrait section. How did you enjoy itsu's reports of Japan Expo 2016? I will be writing about story behind Expo today!
I saw many things at the Japan Expo. So many cosplayers, duealists who are enjoying the battles. The most memorable person was a guy wearing popular girls' guardian's t-shirt who was very tough looking with tattoo but smiling so kindly. It made me smile too!
French staff I met at the Kyoto booth were all friendly and nice. They were my age and some of them were even illustrators like we are! That was such unforgettable meeting for us! I wish I was better at English...! The day they took us out became definitely a great memory of our journey. So, thank you so much!
This is another time, we were in the crowd at the subway between stations. We had no idea what was happening as we don't understand French so we thought maybe someone famous or cute animal is there. So we were stepping forward slowly with some excitement. The result was just an escalator not in operation so people were stuck there. It was so many people and we nearly had our belongings stolen there.
Did you know that supermarkets are closed on Sunday? We've never known about it so we were really starved looking for anywhere to get food. We were so tired, we sat on the bench then we nearly had pick pocketed again.
We aren't very careful people anyway so it was difficult for us to be aware of unusual situations.
So many things happened but it was such an opportunity to experience making portraits overseas! Thank you so much for the presents and doing cosplay, wearing kimono. I saw some people enjoying pokemon which wasn't out yet in Japan at the time. Made me feel closer even it's far from where I live. Manga really can bring connection between people over the boundaries.
Please visit Japan Expo if you ever have chance!

Japan Expo 2016 in Paris report 03
Hi! This is itsu again! I will share my experience of meeting visitors at the Japan Expo today!
I met some cute cosplayers too!
This visitor came to manga museum and made a portrait 6 years ago! How crazy!!
We were taking reservations as we do at the museum in order of visitors' arrival. It was more visitors than we expected, there was a day became occupied within 10 minutes...!
So, we made a lottery for the final person to be drawn on the last day. We drew the lottery in front of many people and I actually was most nervous at the time.
Lucky yoann and Jérôme were chosen!
We were glad that they looked happy!

The 4 days we spent in Paris went so quick. We had so much fun there.
So, how was my Japan Expo report?
Museum's portrait has been 10 years since museum's opening. As I heard there weren't very much customers in the beginning even were are busy having many international customers nowadays.
We hope Japan Expo visitors became interested in Kyoto and manga museum! Please come and visit us at the portrait corner once!

Today I will make a report about the actual day of Japan Expo!
AM9：00 Japan Expo started!
Many many people!
Of course, there were the booths treating anime and manga... and, the area where you can play card games!

Many visitors seemed enjoying their time!
Of course we were busy making portraits too!
We wanted to people to see how we draw so we decided to sit on the other side. As a result, many people stopped by and saw us making portraits!
